CPR Requirement
The National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care Program requires all patrollers and candidates to have annual certification in professional level CPR.
Your CPR skills must be based on the 2015 standards. The ONLY certifications that are acceptable for this class are American Red Cross "Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers", the "American Heart Association - Health Care Provider BLS" or the professional level American Health and Safety Institute (AHSI) or National Safety Council course. Adult CPR, Community CPR, Heart Saver, etc. are NOT acceptable. Your certification must include two-person CPR, AED training, use of bag valve mask and pocket mask and use of oral airways.
To locate a class in your area go to the American Heart Association or American Red Cross websites.
For all certifications, NSP considers the certificate good for ONE year, even though the certifying agency may allow a longer period. ***If you are a candidate for Palisades Ski Patrol, you must ONLY take the American Heart Association class***.
You will need to have your certification by the Backboard session. That date is on the Syllabus. You may want to take the course even shortly before the OEC class starts so you are not short on time. I will likely arrange for a CPR class prior to the start of OEC. I will communicate that information and date as we get closer.
