Emmett Peck will guide an OEC class in San Ramon CA from Sept 17 to Nov 8 2025.  The class will have both in-person and Google Meet Video sessions.  Monday and Wednesday classes will take place in the evening from 6:30-9:30pm via Google Meet.  Our first night will be all together in San Ramon.  We will meet on 3 Saturdays and 1 Sunday from 9am- 4pm for our in-person practical training days.  The practical final will be on Saturday Nov 8 2025.
The first 16 students completing steps 1 and 2 will be accepted to the East Bay OEC class.  If the class fills up, I will establish a "wait list" based on the order I was contacted.  As of 6-9-25 the class is full

The class will meet at the Center Plaza Building located at 2333 San Ramon Valley Blvd. in San Ramon, CA.
Meeting Dates
  • Sept- 17, 22, 24, 27
  • Oct- 1, 4, 6, 8, 12, 13, 15, 20, 22
  • Nov- 1 (Written Final)
  • Nov- 8 (Practical Final)
  • Bold dates are in-person in San Ramon.  If you cannot make ALL in-person dates, please look for another class that better fits your schedule.
  • The 4 in-person practice sessions alone, will not be enough.  You will be expected to practice outside class on your own.  Best practice is to meet with other students in your area.  Past students have found 2-3 sessions of 2-4 hours, in addition to class, helped solidify their skills.
The course will be largely "hands on."  If you need information that is not on the web site, please email me at [email protected]. You must complete registration by September 1st.  You must also arrange to have the 6th Edition Textbook by that date.  It is strongly recommended that you acquire the textbook early and start reading as soon as possible.

The OEC text, like any medical text, can be very difficult reading without a medical background.  There is a substantial reading assignment to be completed before the first class session.  You should plan on spending 75-100 hours of reading before and during the course. The lectures in this class briefly cover the text book content.  The class focuses on the information needed to perform on the hill.  However, the nationally mandated written final examination tests students on detailed information from the textbook so it is essential that students read and absorb all material in the textbook.  The written final examination will be given on November 1st. You must score 80% or higher to successfully complete the course.

Past students say that the hardest part of class is the reading without an adequate background.  Some students without medical experience benefit from completing a First Responder (or higher level) emergency course before beginning the OEC class.

Past students also report that the class sessions are very demanding and that if you have a demanding day job and have substantial family commitments during the class, the class can be very stressful for you.

Instructors:  The success of this class depends on the help of many experienced patroller's who volunteer to help with the classes.  If you are an experienced patroller who would like to help, I would appreciate it if you would send me your information.
